After receiving your application in the mail or via a phone call to the City, a Contractor will call you to schedule an appointment to install the energy efficient measures on your home.

Once the Contractor enters your home, he/she will ask that you fill out a few forms.  This paperwork simply allows the Contractor to perform the work at no cost to you and allows the City of Houston to access your electricity usage history in order to verify the measures are lowering the energy consumption in your home.

The contractor will perform what is called a Blower Door Test, or Pressure Test, on your home.  This allows the contractor to find the leaks in your home.

After the initial evaluation, the Contractor will assess the home to find the best measures to install, those measures may include, adding weather-stripping to exterior doors, installing energy efficient light bulbs, low-flow shower heads, and insulation to the water heater.  Other typical measures not pictured, include insulation in the attic, and calking around windows.

Each home is unique and may require more or less measures in order to lower the energy consumption of the home.
